Come Sing With Us!

Masterworks Chorale typically rehearses Monday evenings, 7:00-9:30 pm, at St. Michael’s in the Hills Episcopal Church in Toledo.  Our season spans from mid-September to mid-June.  We present three major concerts each season: our Christmas Concerts in the first weekend of December, our Classics Concert in late March, and our Connections Concert in early June.  The Classics Concert typically includes an instrumental ensemble, and the Connections Concert often includes guest performers.

Masterworks Chorale is an auditioned ensemble which means members must pass an audition for admission to the Chorale. All returning and prospective members of Masterworks Chorale must audition in August.

The Artistic Director will lead the auditions. At your audition the Artistic Director will ask you to 1) sing some vocalises that he teaches you to demonstrate your range, 2) sing a familiar song like "My Country 'Tis of Thee" or "Amazing Grace" (he'll provide scores for these two), 3) sing a few exercises that demonstrate particular choral skills, and 4) perform some music sight-reading. If you're new, he will also take a picture of you so that he can learn your name more easily.

Information from these auditions is used to determine membership, and to decide voice part assignments and seating/standing arrangements.

Masterworks Chorale is a talented and skilled choir, and admission is competitive. Successful auditionees typically have beautiful vocal color, accurate intonation, and skillful music reading. In the auditions, the Artistic Director must also consider how each voice fits the Chorale as a whole and how the various section of the Chorale will balance with each other. If you audition and are not invited to join the Chorale, you will be welcome to re-audition for a future season.
